Creativity

I got an email from MyBlogSparks announcing the following:
The first “Inside the Crayon Box” live chat is Wednesday, March 7 at 9 p.m. EST. Join Crayola and musician, children´s author and mom, Lisa Loeb for a 45-minute live streaming video chat on the Crayola Facebook Page. Lisa, best-known for her number one hit “Stay (I Missed You),” will share personal stories, practical advice and ways she brings a little creative play into every day for her daughter. Participants can ask Lisa questions during the event, too!

Interested in the topics to be covered during the chat?

  • Why Does Creativity Matter? Creativity is not about who is the best artist or becoming an architect. It´s a way of thinking that encourages kids´ original ideas and develops their confidence.
  • Growing Up Creative. Lisa will share stories about growing up in a home where creativity was encouraged.
  • Simple Tips. Easy Ideas. Like most moms, Lisa juggles a lot. She´ll share simple, easy ways she sparks her daughter´s creativity as part of their daily routine.
Also, be sure to check out Lisa’s book Lisa Loeb’s Silly Sing-Along: The Disappointing Pancake and Other Zany Songs (Sterling Children’s Books, 2011) available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com. Sing, laugh, and play with pop Lisa in this fabulous collection of ten of the silliest songs ever. Fun activities, games, and recipes accompany whimsical songs. Take Lisa’s Silly Sing-Along with you wherever you go and get the high-spirited good times started. Includes a 10-song CD recorded by Lisa!

Accompanying this information was a terrific video which I unfortunately could not successfully embed into this post.  You can watch it here or check it out on my Facebook page.

I am so excited to hear about Crayola’s initiative to inspire our children to create, use their imaginations and engage in original thinking.  We don’t allow our kids enough opportunity for developing these skills.

I applaud you, Crayola, and plan to see you Inside the Crayon Box on March 7 @ 9 pm Eastern time.   I am fairly confident that the chat will fire me up sufficiently to inspire a full blown rant about our over-scheduled, over-supervised childhoods in America today!  So, stay tuned.

(If you are interested in this topic, Crayola produced another great video which includes educators’ perspectives on why art is so important to developing minds.  See it here.)

About may

I am a married mother of three fabulous young adults. I have been married to one great guy for over a quarter of a century and hope we haven't reached the halfway point of our marriage yet. Writing helps me sort things out and allows me to avoid unsavory tasks that I probably should be doing. I've reached middle age in middle America and am anxious to see what comes next.

Wow! I probably won’t join in the chat, but I will stay tuned for your rant and heartily applaud whatever you say about over-scheduled and over-supervised childhoods. I had the fortune of living the elementary and early middle school years with my kids in France ~ so their childhoods were different than many…and I was stunned/shocked by what I found here when we moved back to the states…I’ve been on a few rants myself! AND there is a Crayola Museum off the highway that we pass everytime we visit my dad…one day I’m going to drag my “poor” husband there…I comment on it everytime we drive by it (as we did yesterday) ~ I bet it’s a lot of fun! (maybe when I’ve got grand kids!!)
